In the Eastern and Southern Africa region BIOPAMA is being implemented through IUCN’s innovative thematic programme on Conservation Areas and Species Diversity (CASD). The CASD programme draws on science and best practice to enhance the development of sound and practical policies and strategies in support of biodiversity conservation. The CASD focuses on three strategic directions in the ESA region: 1) Capacity building for improved biodiversity conservation and protected areas management, 2) Improved governance of protected areas and natural resources for enhanced biodiversity conservation and 3) More effective engagement with the development sector. The Technical Coordinator for the CASD programme is based at the IUCN ESARO office located in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Senior Programme Officer responsible for BIOPAMA implementation in the ESA region is based in the IUCN South Africa office in Pretoria.
